Educators today are responsible for much more than teaching. They are being called upon to help students develop an entire palette of social-emotional skills and, at times, even deal with the effects of trauma. There is no professional group that needs emotional literacy more urgently. Teachers and administrators need to have the knowledge, competence, and resources that understanding emotions can give them. Understanding their own emotions will help them understand those of students and their parents and allow them to do more of what they love to do, teach.
